Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine which has been used for thousands of years. It can be used for therapeutic or preventive purposes and can play a major role in treating a range of conditions. The practice of acupuncture involves very fine needles which are inserted into acupuncture points, which lie at specific predetermined anatomical locations. The fine needles used during acupuncture stimulate the body’s energy, Qi (pronounced “chee”) to start the healing process and help the body restore its natural balance.

Our body is made up of "Qi" (chee) - a vital energy source. It travels in the body through meridians, or energy channels. According to TCM, when qi becomes blocked, depleted or weak, illness occurs.

Using fine and sterile needles on specific pressure points and areas of the body, acupuncture balances and ensures the flow of qi throughout our bodies, removing any obstructions and addressing the energy imbalance that form the root of many illnesses.

The needles also interact with the fascial network, which acts as an internal messenger system in our bodies and is particularly important when treating musculoskeletal and pain disorders.

Cupping involves placing round, glass suction cups on your body in specific areas. Cupping has been used as a healing practice for centuries and benefits include improved blood circulation, detoxification, pain and muscle tension relief and scar appearance.

After the cups are removed, it is normal to see distinctive round marks on the skin, which are a common and temporary side effect and most importantly not painful at all. These marks may vary in colour from light pink to dark purple and generally fade over a few days. Some say that the darker the colour of the circles left behind, the deeper the stagnation in your body.

Please note that the cups can leave marks on your skin for a 5-10 days after the treatment.

Moxibustion

Moxa and Breech Presentation - Moxibustion ( Moxa ) is a Chinese dried herb, in my clinic I used a moxa sticks. The moxa is then heated, it is used about 1/2 inches away from the skin along very specific acupuncture points in the body to turn the baby. Moxibustion is often recommended between 32 and 36 weeks of pregnancy, when the baby has enough room to move but is still relatively small.  Acupuncture is also recommended along with this treatment to turn the baby. This involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate the nervous system and promote balance. It's thought to help relax the uterus and create a more favourable environment for the baby to turn.

Moxibustion is another therapeutic method of Chinese medicine, commonly use in conjunction with with acupuncture. The warmth travels through the 12 meridians, stimulating the acupuncture points to regulate qi and blood, dispel cold, warm yang and prevent diseases to maintain overall well-being. Moxibustion are generally used for conditions that are related to cold pathogens or deficiencies.

Fertility Acupuncture

Acupuncture has a long tradition of increasing female fertility along with men’s. By stimulating specific points on the body, acupuncture aims to restore balance and improve overall health, which can enhance reproductive function. In females, acupuncture can regulate menstrual cycles, improve blood flow to the uterus, and reduce stress levels, all of which are critical for conception. For males, acupuncture can improve sperm quality, including count, motility, and morphology, as well as enhance hormonal balance. It is used to prepare the body for conception and pregnancy by balancing the reproductive cycle and improving overall health and emotional well being. It can benefit and support women undergoing IVF and other forms of assisted conception and there is research to suggest that regular acupuncture can help improve sperm quality and quantity.
